Reviewer Guidelines

Research & Publication Ethics Policy

Advances in Food & Biosciences is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of research and publication ethics following the guidelines of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics). All authors, reviewers, and editors must adhere to the principles below to ensure responsible, ethical, and transparent research dissemination.

  1. Compliance with International Ethical Standards
    • Research involving human or animal subjects must obtain and report prior approval from a recognized ethics committee or institutional review board.
    • Studies involving humans must conform to the Declaration of Helsinki or equivalent standards; clinical trials must be prospectively registered, and registration numbers included in manuscripts.
    • Studies involving animals must adhere to national regulations, the 3Rs principle (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement), and guidelines such as ARRIVE, with welfare measures described.
    • Informed consent must be obtained from all human participants (or legal guardians), including for images or identifiable information; all privacy and data protection regulations must be followed.
  2. Authorship, Contributorship, and Acknowledgements
    • Authorship is limited to those making substantial contributions to research conception, design, execution, or interpretation; “gift” and “ghost” authorship are forbidden.
    • All authors must approve the final manuscript and be aware of its submission.
    • Non-author contributions and funding/support must be fully acknowledged with the individuals’/organizations’ consent.
  3. Plagiarism, Originality, and Peer Review
    • Submitted work must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. All sources must be cited. Plagiarism, duplicate or redundant publication, self-plagiarism, data fabrication/falsification, and image manipulation are not tolerated.
    • Manuscripts are routinely screened with plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin).
  4. Conflict of Interest and Funding Transparency
    • Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest (financial, personal, or professional) at submission or review.
    • All sources of research funding, material, or support must be acknowledged, specifying grant numbers where relevant.
  5. Data Integrity, Availability, and Transparency
    • Authors are responsible for the accuracy of all data presented. Raw data and materials should be made available where possible to support transparency and reproducibility unless restricted by ethical or legal reasons.
    • Any significant errors discovered post-publication must be communicated promptly; the journal follows COPE procedures regarding corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern.
  6. Copyright, Permissions, and Open Access
    • Authors retain copyright but grant Advances in Food & Biosciences the right to publish and distribute under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) License, which allows others to share and adapt the work with proper attribution.
    • Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission for any third-party materials and ensuring compliance with copyright rules, STM permissions, and journal open-access policies.
  7. Editorial Independence and Journal Responsibilities
    • Editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit, not influenced by commercial or personal relationships.
    • Any allegation of research or publication misconduct will be thoroughly investigated according to COPE and international guidelines.
    • The editorial office can be contacted for clarification or to report ethical concerns at any stage of the publication process. For further information, authors should consult COPE and relevant local ethics committees or institutional guidelines.
